Many Military Police operations were combined with local VN Police like this checkpoint at the Duy Tan Hotel (L) and (R) photo combined Military Police and VN civilian police town patrol.
218th Military Police patrols covered many areas outside military bases. (L) SGT Dick Reiter and VN Police combined patrol at the Buddah shrine, outskirts of Nha Trang, 1968. This huge buddah could be seen from all around Nha Trang. During Tet the VC fired rockets into the city and US compunds from here. US forces action was limited for a time because the local government didn't want this shrine damaged. Eventually the VC were killed or captured.
